Engage Occupational Therapy is currently owned & operated by Ashlee & Shawn. 


Engage OT is a family-run Business based on the Gold Coast and has been operational since 2015.

We see clients from throughout the South-East corner; from Tweed through to Northern Brisbane. We are able to travel West through to Ipswich and/ or Tamborine for once-off assessments.

We also have the capacity to complete telehealth assessments. 

Engage Occupational Therapy supports people to ENGAGE in the meaningful occupations of everyday life. 


   

Ashlee

Principle Occupational Therapist, Director

My name is Ashlee.

I have been an Occupational Therapist for the past 11 years, having graduated from James Cook University in 2011. Over the past decade I have been helping people throughout the Gold Coast, Northern NSW and Brisbane communities.  

Personally, I am also a Wife, Mother to 2 young boys, Sister & Daughter. I am an involved member of my family, and I understand the challenges that come with all stages of life.

I have worked extensively throughout the NDIS, Medicare, DVA, QLD Health & Private sectors. And have been lucky enough to work with an extensive number of clients, from a wide array of backgrounds, with infants all the way through to people experiencing age-related frailty.

My experience includes creation of suitable housing through modifications & Assistive Technology prescription, task modification, managing their Vascular oedema & Lymphoedema, managing falls & pressure injuries and Energy Conservation.
My experience in Assessments includes Sensory Profile, SDA/ SIL/ ILO assessments, Self-Care or Self-Management Assessments or Cognitive Assessments, overviews of behavioral issues, and the impact of trauma on functional engagement.
My experience in Therapy includes functional life skills training, fine motor skills, social skills, sensory diets, routines, adjustment to change, upper limb rehabilitation, Cognitive training, or emotional regulation. 

Ashlee is also a trauma-informed OT, working supportively with the ATSI & LGBTQIA2+ communities.

I believe that each individual is unique, with their own strengths and aspirations. I offer tailored, client-centered and holistic Occupational Therapy services.

My aim is to be a safe haven, celebrating wins, and nurturing clients to fulfill their potential.
My goal is to enable our clients to engage in a life of meaning and purpose.

Shawn

Senior Occupational Therapist, Director

I'm Shawn.

I graduated with a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy from James Cook University in 2011.

Since graduating I have worked on the Gold Coast within the Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service, and in Private Practice.

My experience is predominately as a Certified Hand Therapist, working with clients who have Hand and Upper Limb Injuries.  This might include people who require assessment, management &/or therapy for conditions including fractures, multi trauma, amputations, tendon/nerve/ligament repairs, carpal tunnel, Dupuytrens, DeQuervains tenosynovitis, skin flaps/grafts, tennis/golfers elbow, repetitive strain injuries and chronic pain conditions.  Management experience includes complex wound care, splint fabrication, exercise prescription, custom compression garments and injury education.  Shawn also has extensive experience with Static and Dynamic custom made thermoplastic orthosis fabrication & casting to protect healing structures, limit movement, provide passive stretch, support Botox programs or regain function post nerve injury.

Shawn also has extensive experience working in Inpatient, Outpatient & Rehabilitation Units throughout the Health Service.  His experience is significantly varied, with proficiency in supporting people who experience Persistent Pain, Geriatric/ Neurological/ Orthopaedic Rehabilitation & Life Skills Training,

Shawn's NDIS experience is in Basic & Complex Home Modifications, plus Assistive Technology prescription,

Shawn has a personal interest in home renovations, having completed multiple home renovations, including obtaining his Owner-Builder license, working alongside Tradesman, Architects & Engineers throughout his latest renovation project.

Jessica

Senior Occupational Therapist

My name is Jess. I have been an Occupational Therapist for the past 14 years. I graduated from the University of Queensland in 2008 and completed a post graduate certificate of soft tissue injury management in 2012. I have enjoyed working as an OT across a number of locations including Brisbane, Central Queensland, Perth and Darwin.

My experience as an Occupational Therapist has been across a variety of settings including occupational rehabilitation (supporting return to work) for physical and mental health related conditions, acute medical and surgical wards in tertiary hospitals, oncology, palliative care and clinical rehabilitation. I have worked within private, public and NDIS sectors. I am passionate about supporting clients to identify and achieve goals that optimises their function, performance and quality of life.

I am experienced in Functional Capacity Assessments, Assistive Technology prescription, home modifications, cognitive assessments and training, upper limb rehabilitation, oedema management, pressure care management, pain management, education to empower fatigue and stress management, developing return to work programs, supporting employment goals and developing programs to gradually increase function and engagement in meaningful activities using a client centred approach.

In my personal life I love to spend time with my family. I have 2 beautiful young children who keep me busy during my time away from work. I love to monkey around with them and feel their pure joy. I also enjoy an active lifestyle because moving my body is how I maintain my flow and keep myself going. 



Jasmyn

Support Worker

I am a third-year Occupational Therapy student at Southern Cross University.

This last year I have worked as a support worker for a child with cerebral palsy in and out of their home to achieve their NDIS goals.

I have always loved children and am passionate about working in paediatrics when I graduate.
